Chris Laird

AUDIOLOGIST
BPsych(Hons), MAud, AcAud (Full)

Chris Laird has decades of experience in helping people with hearing loss on the Yorke Peninsula and Mid-North region including, Port Pirie, Kadina, and Minlaton.

As an audiologist with a Masters Degree in Audiology from Flinders University (2004) and an Honours Degree in Psychology, she has a deep understanding of the intricate processes and mechanisms responsible for hearing loss.

With this knowledge Chris is able to find unique and individually focused solutions for her clients that are struggling to hear. Sometimes this involves hearing aid technology, but at times Chris is also able to offer alternative solutions for those that are not quite ready to take that leap. One of her take home messages is that “there is more to hearing loss than hearing aids”.

Chris’s background in psychology, together with her role as an audiologist, gives her unique insight into the emotional and social challenges that often accompany hearing loss. She understands not only the anatomy of the ear and the physiology of hearing loss but also its psychological impact, enabling her to provide holistic and compassionate care to her patients and their families.

One of Chris’s special areas of interest is tinnitus and with her combined degrees she understands how hearing loss and tinnitus can make people “feel”. By listening to her clients’ needs and wants Chris is often able to offer solutions through a combination of hearing aid technology and counselling around client-centred goals and expectations.

In her downtime Chris likes to spend time with her family and loves to watch a good game of football. Many of Chris’s holidays are spent camping with friends, both on and off-road, but she is probably happiest when home in the kitchen cooking up a storm.
