As a resolutely independent and locally owned business, you can rest assured that you will receive honesty and choice when it comes to your hearing aids.
We are not owned by or affiliated with a hearing aid manufacturer which allows our specialists to move between products and brands as new models are released to market. We also have access to certain products and brands not available at some other large retail or discount hearing aid chains. This unbiased flexibility puts you the customer in a special and unique position, whether you’re exploring hearing aids close to me or seeking custom hearing aid solutions in Adelaide.
The process.
Questionnaire and Hearing Assessment
All the hard work has been done. Now your clinician will work their magic and put all that information together to form a tailor-made hearing aid recommendation.
Device Selection
Your hearing aids will ultimately be selected based on your hearing loss, lifestyle needs, health considerations (eg. dexterity) and budget. Next, you’ll get to choose your hearing aid colour and be measured up for correct size and fit. Impressions of your ears may need to be taken at this point if custom earpieces are indicated for your prescription. We’ll then place your order, and a fitting appointment will be booked for 1-2 weeks’ time. Remember, the final decision is always your choice, and all hearing aids are fitted with a 30 day no obligation FREE trial.
Fitting Appointment
This is the part we love! We hope you’re as excited as we are!
For this part we encourage you to bring along a family member or friend (there is a bit of information to take in and 4 ears are better than 2). But if you can’t bring a significant other, don’t worry. Our clinicians and support staff will spend the time needed to ensure you understand.
Your new hearing aids will be programmed by your audiologist to a prescription specific to your hearing loss. Adjustments will be made based on your individual feedback, preferences and experience level. Remember, please be open and honest about how your hearing aids sound and ask as many questions as your like (no question is a silly one). We want to make sure you’re as comfortable and confident as possible before you walk out the door. Before you leave, we will educate you and practice all relevant aspects of hearing aid use, cleaning and insertion. Your hearing aids will also be paired with your mobile phone and any associated apps if applicable.
Follow-up
This appointment generally occurs 2 weeks after your hearing aid fitting. Although it can take up to 4 months to become fully acclimatized to your new hearing aids, it is important to have regular contact with your audiologist during the initial 30-day trial period. Adjustments to the strength and shape of your prescription are routinely made during these early weeks as you become accustomed to new sounds and experiences. Modern hearing aid software gives us infinite control over the behaviour of the hearing aid technology and sound. Therefore, the more information and feedback you can provide us with, the better the outcome with a greater level of sound customisation generally being achieved.
Time and Perseverance
Following a successful trial period, it is important to continue to be diligent with your hearing aid usage. By now your brain has had enough exposure to amplification for hearing to become effortless and natural again. Keep up a good routine and don’t slip into old habits. Our team will happily take care of the paperwork involved in claiming any government subsidies or private health rebates you may be entitled to.
Remember, you are now part of the Hear More community, you are not on your own moving forward.
Our front of house staff and clinical team are very accessible and are only a phone call or visit away. Whether you need help with hearing aid batteries Adelaide locals trust or ongoing care for your device, we’re here to support you.
All follow-up service, appointments and repairs are included with your hearing aid purchase for a period of 3 years (eligible pension clients are covered through the hearing services program). After the 3 years is up, your can either pay for your appointments and repairs as you go, or you can join the Hear More extended warranty and service plan. This will be offered to you at the end of your trial and takes your warranty and service out to a total period of 5 years from the date of fitting.
In the rare case that your hearing aid trial could not produce a successful outcome, your clinician can discuss an alternative device trial with something more suitable. Failing this, your devices can be returned to us, and any deposits paid will be refunded. Whether you need hearing aids close to me, professional hearing aid solutions, or advice on hearing aids Adelaide customers trust, we’re here for you.
Hearing Aid FAQs
Hearing aids can vary greatly in cost, but as a guide our pricing starts from $750 per device ranging up to $4250 for premium level technology.
Remember cheaper doesn’t necessarily mean better when it comes to investing in your hearing. All hearing aids come as a blank canvas. The value comes from the training, knowledge and skills your audiologist has to accurately test your hearing and then customise the devices appropriately for you. Ensuring your provider has proven high level aftercare is another important consideration.
As an independent hearing aid clinic, we work with all major reputable hearing aids brands. Some of our proven brands of choice include: Oticon, Starkey, Phonak, Unitron, Widex and Signia.
Each hearing aid manufacturer has different strengths and weaknesses in their product portfolios. For example, sound quality, size, reliability, feedback (whistling), noise reduction, phone compatibility, accessories and onshore/offshore manufacturing and aftercare all vary greatly between makes and models. As an independent clinic, and with decades of experience between us, you can trust that we are across all segments of the market and will recommend the right product for you.
Although some providers will take the approach of rushing to throw a set of devices into your ears before your walk out the door, we believe in a slower, more bespoke approach. We want to customise the experience and involve you in the process as much as possible to ensure the best outcome. Colour choices, measurement checks and ear impressions for custom built ear pieces (if required) will all be taken before your devices are individually ordered on a per customer basis. This usually takes 1-2 weeks, at which time we will book a dedicated fitting session for your devices.
? If you are wearing your hearing aids for most of the day and they are turned off every night, then a hearing aid battery can last anywhere from 5-14 days depending on the battery size. More and more newer hearing aids are moving towards rechargeable lithium ion batteries that never need to be changed, but they need to be charged every night. These are available in both behind the ear and in the ear styles.
Although there is no set timeframe for getting new hearing aids, the average time we see an uptake of new technology is 5-6 years.
No, hearing aids are not the same as glasses. As a Hear More Audiology client, your hearing will be retested every 12 months. At this time your audiologist will reset and update your hearing aid prescription to take into account any changes to your hearing. For more dramatic changes, earpieces, domes and receivers will be changed long before a new set of hearing aids is required.
There are generally 2 main sources of funding available for hearing aids in Australia:
- Government Hearing Services Program
This program allows eligible pensioners and veterans to access funds though accredited service providers who provide the following hearing services: assessments, rehabilitation and hearing devices. Hear More Audiology is an accredited service provider. - Private Health Insurance
If you have extras cover in your private health insurance, then you may be entitled to a rebate for hearing aids under health aids and appliances. Our team will take care of finding out your exact available rebate, as well as processing all paperwork involved with processing your claim.
Yes! We believe that hearing aids need to be worn in a real world, home environment in order to achieve an accurate test of suitability. This is why we offer all clients a Free 30 day no obligation in home trial on all devices.
You should wear your devices all waking hours (expect for showering or swimming). At the very least, we stress that a form of regular daily use is important to get the most out of your aids and maintain your brains acclimatisation to sound.
Yes, we strongly recommend all our clients contact their house and contents insurer after purchasing new hearing aids. In the majority of cases, you will not be fully covered for loss or damage to your devices unless you have specified them on your policy. You will also need to ensure you are covered during your free 30 day hearing aid trial (this usually involves getting a cover note from your insurer for the duration of the trial period).
Of course, our team will take care of everything for you.
If you are on a pension and have hearing aids though the Hearing Services Program, we will simply transfer your records through the online portal using your concession number and personal details. If you have already paid the yearly battery and maintenance fee don’t stress, this will automatically transfer to us (there is no need to pay the fee again for the current year).
If you are not on a pension, simply contact us to book your free initial comprehensive hearing assessment. After the appointment, if you feel like we are a good fit for you, then you can sign a file transfer form and we will get any records sent from your previous provider.
Yes, you should be able to receive a loud and clear phone signal by holding the phone near the hearing aid microphones (note: for behind the ear devices this is on top of the ears so you will need to hold the phone higher to ensure adequate microphone pickup is achieved).
Most modern hearing aids will now connect wirelessly to your mobile phone allowing direct handsfree streaming through both of your hearing aids, essentially acting like headphones. This ensures the best quality phone audio and is adjusted to account for your individual hearing loss.
This will ultimately depend on the results of your hearing test, but best practice is to fit 2 hearing aids if there is loss in both ears. Bilateral hearing provides improved speech understanding in background noise, better sound localisation and results in a more uniform delivery of sound stimulation to the brain, thus reducing cognitive load. Many modern hearing aids also use wireless technology where the aids are constantly talking to each other to make adjustments based on where sounds are coming from, and whether you are moving or standing still.
Despite this, 1 hearing aid is still better than none at all and may be recommended in some cases. You are welcome to experiment wearing 1 or 2 devices during your 30-day trial to see what works best for you.
Although safe, most people remove their hearing aids when sleeping. This allows your hearing aids to charge overnight (if they are a rechargeable model), saves batteries (if they use batteries) and gives your ears rest and ventilation overnight.
Most modern hearing aids are water resistant not waterproof. This means sweat or rain is fine, but please remove your devices when swimming or showering. If you do accidentally get them wet, immediately remove the batteries and turn the aids off. Leave them sitting out in a dry place with the battery doors open for 24-48 hours before turning them back on. If you have a hearing aid dryer or dehumidifier then this is the best method of drying your devices out (please ask us about our hearing aid dryer options).
The simple answer is yes. There are many different hearing aid types that fit alongside glasses comfortably. Just be mindful when removing your glasses that you do so in a way that does not dislodge your hearing aids.
When you are asked to turn off electronic devices on your flight, this does not apply to hearing aids. If your hearing aids are connected to your mobile via Bluetooth, then your phone just needs to be in flight mode. There is also no need to remove your hearing aids or cochlear implants when moving through airport security scanning.
As an independent provider we can essentially act as a hearing aid broker on your behalf. We have access to all manufacturers and technology, not just the brands that another company may be owned by or affiliated with. This also allows us to move between different products as new technology comes to market. This means the best possible fit for you and your hearing needs.
